For a Georgia dealer license you pre-register for fingerprints with IdentoGO, and you can be fingerprinted only after your application is on file with the Board. You then get an email from the GBI/GAPS to schedule. A facility inspector calls you, visits your location and calls your landline. If something is missing, you get a paper listing what to fix.
Fingerprints
Georgia requires a fingerprint-based background check. You pre-register online at Georgia IdentoGO using the service code for used motor vehicle dealers. Using the wrong code can cause delays. If you live outside Georgia, choose the mail-in fingerprint card option.
The order
- Pre-register with IdentoGO.
- Submit your application to the Board.
- Once Board staff verifies your application is on file, you receive an email from the GBI/GAPS to schedule your appointment. Check your spam folder.
- Get fingerprinted at an IdentoGO enrollment center with a valid photo ID.
The inspection
A preliminary inspection happens before your license is issued. The inspector usually calls the contact number you provided, often the same day and sometimes a few days before, so answer unknown calls. At your location, the inspector will call your landline, the public business phone number from your application. It must be an active line. The inspector also checks your sign, restroom, lockable cabinet, and desk and chairs.
If something is missing
If something is incomplete, the inspector gives you a paper listing the items. Fix them as soon as possible. The paper has instructions on how to update each issue. Once updated, you receive your license.
Amounts and rules change. Confirm current requirements with the Georgia State Board of Registration of Used Motor Vehicle Dealers at (404) 424-9966 before you pay for anything.
