Renewing your Georgia dealer license
- Cycle: two years, expiring September 30 of even-numbered years.
- Continuing education: six hours are required to renew.
- How: renew online through the Secretary of State portal.
- Fee: one provider reports a $150 renewal fee. Confirm the current amount with the Board.
- Keep current: your bond and insurance must stay active for the entire license period.
- Late renewal: there is a short late window after expiration, and after that reinstatement may require a new application and a higher fee. Exact dates and fees change, so check your status in the portal.
Getting dealer license plates
Once you are licensed by the State Board, you apply for dealer plates through the Georgia Department of Revenue, Motor Vehicle Division. Since September 1, 2021, dealer registrations and plate renewals must be completed online through DRIVES e-Services.

How many plates do you get?
Without certification, you receive three plates: one master and two additional. To request more, Form MV-6B must certify how many vehicles you sold in the previous calendar year. The Department may limit plates if your numbers don't match its records.
Replacing a damaged or lost plate
Submit the damaged plate (or a notarized affidavit or police report listing the plate number), Form MV-6B and a $12 check or money order payable to the Georgia Department of Revenue to the Business Registration Unit. If a plate was lost in the mail before you received it, a different form (T-200) replaces the payment. If you close your business, return all plates with a signed letter explaining why.
